Prof- Ravi Bapna (Batch of 1987, )
About the Book:
How AI can positively impact so many aspects of our daily lives, from health and wellness to work, education, and home life.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful general-purpose technology that is reshaping the modern economy, but misperceptions about AI stand in the way of harnessing it for the betterment of humanity. In Thrive, Ravi Bapna and Anindya Ghose counter the backlash by showcasing how AI is positively influencing the aspects of our daily lives that we care about most: our health and wellness, relationships, education, the workplace, and domestic life. In the process the authors help explain the underlying technology and give people the agency they need to shape the debate around how we should regulate AI to maximize its benefits and minimize its risks.
Bringing over two decades of experience with cutting-edge research, consulting, executive coaching, and advising to bear on the subject, Bapna and Ghose demystify the technology of AI itself. They offer a novel “House of AI” framework that encompasses traditional analytics, generative AI, and fair and ethical deployment of AI. Using examples from everyday life, they showcase how the modern AI-powered ecosystem fundamentally improves the emotional, physical, and material well-being of regular people across the globe. Thrive’s mission is to educate the public about AI, shape realistic expectations, and foster informed discussions about a fast-emerging AI-shaped society.
Mr.Sudeep Chakravarti (Batch of 1981, RAJ House)
About the Book:
In late August 1978, Geeta and Sanjay Chopra stepped out of their home in a quiet neighbourhood in Delhi. Geeta had to record a programme at All India Radio. Her younger brother Sanjay accompanied her. The two teenagers disappeared. Three days later, their disfigured bodies would be found by cowherds in a deserted corner of the Ridge, a thickly forested area on the western outskirts of the city. The brutal killing of the children traumatized the city and transfixed the nation. The prime minister had to answer questions about the crime in parliament and police forces in numerous states were mobilized to hunt down the killers.
In Fallen City, the first full-length book about the murder and its aftermath, I recall the horrific crime using eyewitness accounts, archival research, court records, and original interviews to shed fresh light on the tragedy.
The murder of Geeta and Sanjay Chopra took place during an exceptionally unsettled phase in the history of the Indian capital in modern times. Just a few years earlier, in the mid-1970s, Indira Gandhi’s Emergency had terrorized many sections of the population, and just a few years later, in 1984, the city would be convulsed again by a pogrom against Sikhs following the assassination of Indira. Against this background of blood and vengeance, Fallen City attempts to explore the murder of the Chopra siblings, the hunt for their killers, and the sadness and trauma of those grim days and the darkness that settled on Delhi, and on India.
Mr Shivalik Bakshi (Batch of 1991, RAJ House)
About the Book:
Nowhere Man-Capt. Kamal Bakshi fought in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and went missing after the Battle of Chhamb--the bloodiest battle of 1971. Although no one from his battalion had seen him get killed, no one had been able to locate his body. And so, the military declared him 'Missing, Believed Killed'--the ambiguous status assigned to soldiers when their death cannot be confirmed.
However, six years after the war, the Indian government changed its mind. The Ministry of External Affairs announced in Parliament that Indian intelligence agencies have reason to believe that Pakistan had not been truthful when it handed over the list of Indian POWs in its custody. It went on to state the names of at least forty Indian soldiers still believed to be in Pakistani custody and one of the names was Kamal Bakshi's.
This book has been written by his nephew Shivalik Bakshi. It is his story, recreated from his letters, diaries, recollections of those who crossed paths with him and published accounts of the Battle of Chhamb.
Mr Vivek Sood (Batch of 1984, Jodpur House)
About the Author & Book:
Vivek Sood is one of the leading senior counsels based in Delhi with three decades of law practice, a prolific author, a frequent speaker on contemporary legal and constitutional issues on public platforms. As a senior counsel, Sood is well known for being engaged in complex legal briefs in diverse branches of law including criminal, constitutional and commercial laws.
Apart from a very successful law practice, Vivek Sood strongly believes in contributing to the development of law and other socio-legal causes such as promoting DNA evidence, the human right to fair trial, and free speech. Vivek Sood is also a prolific author.
Each of his books demystifies complex legal issues so that they can be read by one and all rather than only the legal community. He has written extensively on the criminal justice system, cybercrime, electronic evidence, immunity to Internet intermediaries, electronic contracts, taxation of Internet entities, intellectual property rights in the virtual world, arbitration, insolvency law, as well constitutional issues with respect to the Right to Privacy.
Sood’s books are pioneering works on the subjects he chooses to write on. He coined the expression “Fundamental Right to Internet” in 2011, which was the title of his book. In 2021, Sood coined the expression “Commercial Justice” in his book titled “Emergence of Commercial Justice: Insolvency & Arbitration”. He then authored another widely read book titled “Right to Privacy: Arguing for the People” in 2021. In the year 2022, Sood authored “ Progress of Indian Economy: Legislative Proactivism since 2015.”

Mr K C Verma (Batch of 1965, Jodpur House)
About the Book:
A Whiff of Whimsy is just that—a collection of entertaining pieces on disparate subjects, ranging from personal foibles, social mores and current events to dysfunctional domesticity, pet peeves and growing old. The common threads of whimsy, sarcasm and amusing observations about human nature and urban life run through them.
K.C. Verma finds much to be joyous about in everyday life—from ageing gracefully to the ambiguous détente with the ‘little woman’. Besides heaping scorn on whatever he considers unacceptable conduct on the part of the rest of the world, he does not shy away from ridiculing the quirky behaviour of total strangers, neighbours and even his relatives. The charming narration of the improbable situations that Verma finds himself in is guaranteed to strike a sympathetic chord with readers across different age groups.
A Whiff of Whimsy is an eclectic mix of opinions and satire, as also impish observations about the not-so-simple business of leading humdrum lives. It will leave you with a good feeling, and a sense of having been on a highly enjoyable journey.
Wing Commander (Dr) Ashish Banerji (Batch of 1971, AFMC Batch of 1973)
About the Book:
This book is not an autobiography in the traditional sense. It does not follow my life chronologically, nor is it a complete account of my experiences. Instead, it focuses on the patients I managed and the challenges I faced, both surgical and administrative. While the incidents described are drawn from my life, this is not about my life – it’s about the situations I encountered and how I dealt with them.
