Book Fair- 11th to 13th Apr 2024
A Book Fair was organized in the College Library from 11th Apr to 13th Apr 2024. The fair was inaugurated by Mr. Saurav Sinha, the Principal of Mayo College, along with the students of Class VII.
The fair showcased a diverse collection of books encompassing various genres such as Fiction, Nonfiction, Biographies & Autobiographies, Self-help, Sports, Hobbies, and more, providing the students with a wide array of options to select from.
Developing Guidelines for National Book Promotion by NCERT
Mr D S Jhala, the Librarian at Mayo College, participated as a resource person in a workshop organized by the Department of Elementary Education, NCERT, New Delhi. The workshop, held from 5th to 7th March at the Regional Institute of Education in Ajmer, focused on developing guidelines for the National Book Promotion Policy. The main aim of the workshop was to discuss the draft of the policy and explore various strategies to promote book reading on a national scale.
On the 6th of March, the NCERT team paid a visit to the library of Mayo College. During their visit, they engaged in an interactive session with members of the Library Society. The focus of the session was on discussing the draft of the National Book Promotion Policy and exploring different strategies to encourage book reading at a national level.
Mr. Saurav Sinha has had a very interesting and varied background and brings with him a diverse skill set, nurtured through working in different industries, cultures and countries.
After spending 8 years as a boarder at Welham Boys School, he graduated from Hindu College, Delhi University in 1994. He was selected to the MA program in Mass Communication at Jamia Milia Islamia. After attending the first year there, he decided to step into the work field and was part of the rapidly growing media landscape of the late 90’s in India.
After gaining a few years of on ground experience, he gained admission into the MBA program at the prestigious London Business School. He has worked in banking, healthcare and digital marketing in London,Europe and Singapore before returning to India to set up the digital business for the Walt Disney Company. He has also been a founding member of Epic channel, where he handled programming and content development.
At the age of 40, he kept his promise to himself and left the corporate world to pursue his true interest in the field of education, specifically boarding schools. He calls himself an eternal boarder and is passionate in keeping boarding schools up to date and in synch with the changing demands of parents and students, while upholding the sanctity and legacy of schools such as Mayo, which set them apart from the several new schools coming up in bourgeoning education landscape.
For the last decade he has taught English and Economics /Business in CBSE as well as IB and IGCSE boards. He has held leadership positions at Welham Boys’, Pathways World School Gurgaon, and most recently as a Director of Pastoral Affairs and Boarding at the newly opened Harrow International School Bengaluru, where he set up policies, practices and protocols for the school and students.
Amitabh Kant made a visit to the library at Mayo College in order to autograph his books. He has signed copies of his three books: "Branding India," "Made in India," and "Incredible India 2.0."

Chandrakant Singh is a veteran of the Bangladesh Liberation War in which he was wounded and received the Vir Chakra for gallantry. He is now an acknowledged writer and speaker on military history and travel-related subjects. In the past year, he has published two books- Cavalier in the Sky, the biography of Air Marshal Chandan Singh and Meghna River of Victory, a definitive account of the defining battle of the Liberation War.
Maj Chandrakant Singh, VrC, a war veteran of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, was in conversation with Dr Achal Deep Dubey, wherein he shared his experiences of being part of India’s historic victory over Pakistan. He was at Mayo to gift his books – Meghna: A River of Victory, Sagat, and Cavalier in the Sky: Biography of Air Vice Marshal Chandan Singh.

Book Fair at Mayo College Library
To celebrate the joy of reading books and to inculcate reading habits among the students, a Book Fair was held in the Mayo College Library from 4th to 6th October 2023. It was inaugurated by the HMSS, Mr Navin Kumar Dixit and the students of Class VIII.
A wide range of books of different genres were on display including Fiction, Nonfiction, Biographies & Autobiographies, Motivation, Sports, Hobbies, Self-help, etc., for the students to choose from.
