Book Lovers’ Day – Book Fair at Mayo College Junior School

To celebrate Book Lovers’ Day, Mayo College Junior School organised a vibrant Book Fair on 9 August 2026. The initiative aimed to inculcate the habit of reading among students and nurture a lasting love and appreciation for books.

Students enthusiastically explored a wide variety of books across different genres and subjects. The event provided an engaging opportunity for young readers to discover new authors, stories and ideas, while encouraging them to make reading a regular part of their daily lives.

The Book Fair was a meaningful celebration of books and reading, reinforcing the belief that “A book is a gift you can open again and again.”

College Library and Reading Room

The School has two well-stocked libraries and reading rooms, one each in the junior and senior school.
The Library contains over 50,000 books, e-Books, Audio Books, and Digitized rare books. Additionally, the library has subscriptions to 50 periodicals and journals offering the latest research and scholarly articles.
It is fully automated and offers IT services, including a reading room with Wi-Fi access to digital reading materials.
The Library has adapted to the digital era by incorporating academic databases like JSTOR, SCRIBD, and MyLOFT, enabling scholarly research and granting students access to a vast array of information.
The Library utilizes the Google Cloud Console for remote access to digital resources for students and staff.
It contains the archives of Mayo College publications and literature, which are 148 years old, in both physical and digital formats.
The Library Society, consisting of students, is responsible for recommending and evaluating book acquisitions for the library. Additionally, they coordinate a range of activities within the library to encourage a reading culture.
Authors are also invited to the school to interact with the students and help them develop creative writing skills.
Book fairs are regularly held. Boys are taken to literary festivals to meet and interact with authors of repute.

Reading Interest Survey

In collaboration with the College Library, the Department of English conducted a Reading Interest survey to discover the reading pattern and behaviour of the students. All the students from classes 7 to 12 participated in the survey.

The questionnaire was based on various Genres under the broad categories of Fiction and Non-fiction. The findings of this survey would propel the endeavour of providing meaningful and relevant reading material to the students and inculcating a culture of reading amongst them.

Library Orientation Programme-2022

Mayo College Library and Resource Centre organized Library orientation programme for the students of Class VII and new students of Classes VIII & IX on 11th Apr to 13th Apr 2022.

The programme was aimed at enabling the students to make better use of library resources and inculcate the habit of reading.

Book Fair-2025

Book Fair at Mayo College Senior School Library

The Mayo College Senior School Library organized a Book Fair from the 10th to the 12th of April 2025. The event was inaugurated by the Principal of Mayo College, Mr. Sourav Sinha, along with Class VII-A student Aditya Kumar Tiwary (4152).

The main aim of the Book Fair was to inculcate reading habits among students and to encourage them to explore a wide range of books beyond their academic curriculum.

Two reputed book sellers participated in the fair, showcasing a diverse collection of books across multiple genres and subjects.
Fiction titles included genres such as:-Realistic fiction, Science fiction, Adventure, Crime fiction,
Mystery, Historical fiction and many more titles.
Non-fiction titles covered subjects like:-Self-help, Psychology, Philosophy, Computer Science, Religion, Military Science, Social Sciences, Education, Languages, Sciences, Gardening, Biographies, Sports, Riding and many more titles.
The fair received an enthusiastic response from the students, creating a vibrant environment of curiosity, exploration, and learning.
